CHILDHOOD TRAUMA LINKED TO CHRONIC ILLNESS

May 6th, 2017

A very important article on the effects of childhood trauma. As a trauma informed counsellor, I always ask my clients the important question "What was it like growing up for you?" I am always astounded by how little attention has been given to adverse childhood experiences by past therapist or doctors as possible causes for adult symptoms such as chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, anxiety, depression and most importantly ADHD. My clients feel an almost instant relief and a lightening of their being when we start to connect the dots.

MINDFULNESS

January 20, 2017

Mindfuness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience. Read my blog to find out further but for now check out these free mindfulness mp3s that you can download and start doing today!! Some are only 5 minutes long...you can spare that much time for peace and contentment! :)

HOLDING THE SPACE

November 1, 2016

As therapists we are taught to "Hold Space" for our clients when working together. This article is so beautiful and says so much about why I want to do this kind of work. To walk along side someone, without judgement, to be there with them.

WHY THERAPY WORKS

October 31, 2016

"It works because of what therapists and clients are doing together—not because of the therapist’s expertise in fixing clients’ faulty thinking processes, in interpreting or re-interpreting their life experiences, or in teaching them behavioral options. And what therapists and clients are doing together is creating something new—a new relationship, a new way of speaking, new meanings. This is possible because we are social beings who, in spite of the myth of individualism and inner states of mind, are forever interconnected in the activity of living. "
